So I just saw the school fact on College confidential, and the Average H.S. GPA (unweighted) is 4.47, that's not a 4.0 scale...... so can someone tell me what's the scale for college confidential? Thanks

that 4.47 is weighted not unweighted. The statistic is, the average weighted gpa of students who reported a gpa of 4.0 or higher on the weighted scale is 4.47.

I know that but u should go check out the school fact, cuz it did said (uw), that’s why i’m thinking is it in a 5.0 unweighted gpa scale, same as Northeastern?

Its not on a 5.0 scale. I’m 100 percent positive 4.47 is an average weighted gpa. If it says unweighted somewhere, then it is wrong.

^^^

bencoley is right; the average admitted GPA to UNC for last year was 4.47 (weighted). I just went on college confidential and put in what my GPA is right now, weighted, even though the maximum there is the UNweighted 4.0 scale. UNC is really competitive for admission and you can see the importance of a strong academic record in that weighted score of 4.47. That’s a high average in my opinion.

the ks.

UNC oprates on a 6 point scale where an A in Honors=5 and an A in AP’s=6

In our Northern VA schools–no extra points for honors/advanced classes and 5 points for for AP classes. Can’t take any AP classes as a freshman and can only take 1 as a sophomore. We could never get one of those “high” GPAs

4.47 on a 6.0 scale isn’t really that high, unless your school has grade deflation, of course. This means that you can get half As and half Bs while taking all honors and an AP for each standard. Counting all the HS courses I have taken in NC I’d have close to a 4.9.

BeachMoM21, don’t worry, colleges got yo’ back
Colleges recalculate GPAs in house. They get rid of fluff (gym etc etc) and do a bunch of other things. UNC probably recalculates to the honors/advanced=5 and ap=6 scale that all of NC uses, but IDK. They might just do unweighted with aps looking nice.
Either way, they have you covered, don’t worry.

You are so right, countrybumpkin! Would have loved to see what DD’s “new” weighted GPA would have been if UNC did recalculate it the Carolina way. But no worries in the end–she was accepted :)
