I really want to transfer from Purdue to top universities like Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, Harvard, but I do not know if I could have a chance with GPA of 3.5 something. Average GPA for Berkeley this year was 3.62, and for MIT 3.5+ is considered competitive.
I am an international student, but could I have a better chance with good SAT I & SAT II, good essay & recommendations? Would doing community service, research and perhaps sports help?

Obviously it’s gonna help you. MIT sounds impossible not because of your stats but it’s because many people with similar or better stats have the same dream of attending MIT and limited spaces are available esp for transfers. Berkeley sounds more possible and it’s a great school.

I don’t think so.

Unfortunately, transfer admissions are extremely selective and GPA centric. For those schools, you would probably want 3.7+ GPA along with strong performance in the rest of the categories.

That said, your best chance is at Berkeley. The UC system is widely known for large transfer admissions (though not necessarily high admissions rates).
