Hi

First off, I know it is difficult to transfer to Yale. That being said, hypothetically, would it be difficult for a junior who transferred to Yale as a sophomore to study abroad? I couldn't find much information about this. Thank you.

probably, yeah. Yale’s going to insist that you make up lots of distribution and major requirements, which are tough to take when you’re abroad. For example, if you’re a history major, you need to take two “junior seminars” during your junior year. If you’re going abroad, Yale strongly encourages you to take them sophomore year, which you obv. can’t do if you aren’t at Yale as a sophomore.

Doesn’t Yale also offer study abroad classes during the summer? If so, that could always be a possibility.

My D transferred to Y as a soph and is considering going abroad spring of her jr year. They also have summer abroad opportunities with very good support if you’re getting FA.

Thank you for your input, everyone. I am looking into majoring in language, so I’d like to take a full year abroad, but if I transfer anywhere (from UChicago), summers would probably be fine, too.
