Can students repeat the same AP test in a later year?

Say a bright freshman or sophomore wants to try an AP exam because they think they can do pretty well--but they end up with a 2 or 3 when they wanted a higher score. Can they retake it after another year? If they score higher on a second try, will the first score be dropped, or reported? Will the first score still be counted against the student (bring down their average) for AP Scholar Awards in later years?

1 Yes they can retake
2/3 It depends on whether your set of scores is joined up between the two years. You need to fill in your SSN and the same personal details to ensure that the sets of scores are joined together. It’s quite simple to avoid having the two sets joined up, if you wish so.

However, if the scores are matched up, then yes, all scores are counted toward the average.

I am pretty sure that most of the time the scores will be joined (it simplifies their own procedures and databasing). It won’t be dropped, but yes you can retake the test to receive college credit.
