Hi, I was admitted to UCSD as a TAG student, and start next fall as a poli sci major. Im not so sure I want to stick with that. Would I still be able to change my major a quarter or two after I start?

Yes, you should be able to do it immediately. Also, it may be difficult to change to an impacted major like Bio.

Maybe, but I’m not sure. I decided to change my major before I filled out my UC app., and a UC Davis counselor told me that my TAG would be nulled if I switched majors. However, I don’t know about after you transfer.

Yes, you are allowed to change your major. Once you are officially enrolled you can change it. I’ve changed my major a couple times since I’ve transferred without any problems.

TAG nulled if you send in a change of major request? Tell me that isn’t true. I just emailed UCSD hoping they would switch me from Bio to Comp. Sci. for Fall 2011. I accidentally put two bio majors (which are impacted) on my application so if I don’t get accepted to the major I won’t be allowed to attend UCSD, even though I have TAG? How does this work?

I’ve never heard of that… I was a TAG student and started attending UCSD in fall 2010. I was admitted to UCSD as a Bioengineering major but then changed it to Chemical Engineering. Once you are admitted into the school and are officially enrolled, you will be able to change your major. I believe you will be able to do that a couple of weeks or so before the fall quarter starts… As long as you are changing your major to an “open” major and not “impacted”, you will be okay. Changing your major does not null your TAG or your admission. I know other universities might be picky about major changes, but not UCSD.

Also, if you put two impacted majors down on your application and don’t get into either of them, you will be accepted into the university as an undeclared major.

Very helpful post! Thanks!
