I took the ACT in March and I didn’t study for it. I got a 24 Composite which isn’t so bad for the schools I’m applying to. I made a 26 on Math, 23 English, 21 Reading, and 26 Science. What I’m asking is will the school I’m applying to take my higher math score into account? I want to major in Chemistry. I plan to retake the ACT and I think I can get at least a 26-27 composite and a 28-30 on the Math.
For ex.
School A ACT Scores
-Composite: 25th percentile is 24
75th percentile is 28
My score is 24
-Math: 25th percentile is 22
75th percentile is 26
My score is 26
Yes, schools look at individualized sub scores on the ACT. They will take your math and science into account. I do still recommend retaking the ACT again. If you put in work, you’ll definitely do better. I scored a 22 on my first practice test. After about two months of practice, I scored a 32. Grant it, I can’t guarantee the same results, but any amount of practice will increase your odds. Good luck!
Going from a 22 to a 32 is pretty incredible! I’m not going to just settle with a 24. I plan to retest probably twice. Maybe once if I get at least 27 or 28 on it the first time. I took the SAT and it was so bad I don’t even like to think about it.
@WiliyamMSL Thanks! I haven’t bothered taking the SAT. From what I hear, most students do terrible on one, while they do better on the other. I’m sure you can reach a 27 or 28 with practice. The easiest scores to raise are the English and Math. Science and reading can fluctuate greatly. For example, on my first ACT I scored a 33 on Science. On my next one, I scored a 24. Even if you don’t reach your goal, you should still be proud. A 24 is 3 points higher than the national average.
