So I’m using my mom’s information for the FAFSA, and eventually the CSS Profile. We don’t have her income and tax information for 2014 because it’s still being worked out, and she is going through a divorce with my step dad and obtaining our house back that will apparently influence those numbers. We used her information for 2013. However, this information has some drastic differences from what she expects 2014 will be.
- Can the income information for a parent be changed after I click "submit" on the FAFSA?
- The earliest FAFSA deadline for my colleges is Feb. 15th. Am I able to change her income information after that date?
Thank you!
You should submit your FAFSA using a “will file” status…meaning your mom will file her taxes but hasn’t yet done so.
You should youse your BEST ESTIMATES for 2014 income and taxes paid…not those different numbers from 2013. Do the best possible estimating based on end of year pay stubs. You submit to the colleges.
Then have those taxes completed asap. Go back into your FAFSA, and change the fields to reflect what is actually on your 2014 tax return. You do not change the asset amounts. Just the fields that relate to numbers on your 2014 tax return. Change your filing status to “taxes completed”. Lonk to the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, mand submit again.
Get your taxes done as soon as possible. This is not the year to wait until April 15.
