Can theatre majors get accepted based off of talent with low GPAs?

Hi,
I have a subpar GPA (2.9 UW 3.0W) and a 30 ACT. I always had trouble prioritizing in high school with my academics and tech theatre activities/paid work, which ended up ruining my grades. I do however, have a 3.6 GPA for my senior year so far, because I am finally starting to bloom (I consider myself a late bloomer). I am applying to the BFA Scenic Design major and recently had my interview on campus. I presented my portfolio to the professors and they seemed to like my portfolio, but I don’t know for sure. As a guide for how good my portfolio is (not to be egotistical), I actually got accepted into VCU’s Scenic Design program on the spot after my portfolio review with them a couple of weeks ago. For the admissions process for a theatre major at Penn State, you must be eligible in both talent and academic categories. HOWEVER, because theatre is only offered at University Park, I was told that the GPA requirements, or academic standards, if you will, are lower. I was wondering if anybody has knowledge about this subject and would like to provide some helpful insight. I also put down that I was willing to do the Summer Program on my application.
Thanks!

P.S. I have never been good at math or a foreign language and tend to do extremely well in hands-on classrooms/experiences. Others consider me to be one of the most creative, friendly, and welcoming persons they know.

I am a newcomer to CC and I just read this. I am curious to know what happened? Were you accepted? I was kind of thinking that you might be admitted as a BA with the option of moving into the BFA after showing you can manage the academics. Please post again. I’d like to know where you are going as I am sure that you were accepted somewhere.

scratch that. I just saw your post in the other thread. Congratulations!
