Can these scores get me in?

SAT 1: 2150
SAT II: MATH IIC: 740, Literature: 680, Language: 740, Biology: 590, Art History: 600
GPA: W:4.36, UW:3.77
A-Gs: 56
APs and Honors 10-11th: 13
Senior Weighted Classes: 6

You know, everyone who sends these in asking for their chances isn't going to get very accurate feedback from anyone. The thing is, yes Berkeley accepts people with high gpa, SAT/ACT scores, and everything else. However, a big reason Berkeley is difficult to get into is because that is not all they are looking into. Personal experiences, uniqueness, and rare qualities are the keys to getting into Cal. The biggest thing to do is try your best to be different, to seperate yourself from the pack of everyone else. That is why many 4.5 gpa, 2200 SAT students don't get in: They are all the same. Granted, everyone in Cal is very intelligent, but intelligent in different ways.

So no matter what you see people post, your chances and whatnot, realize they are only getting one side of you: the academic side. There is more to it. Much more.

excellent post Smallz. Brilliant. And soo true.

Thank you so much Smallz3141, I really appreciate your comments. I will keep that in mind. I am very curious if my scores and grades stand a strong chance.

Id say youve got a good chance.

hpdeskjetrocks- what do you want to major @ Berkeley?

So Smallz, i have to make a decision between Spanish 4 and a business class that is required if I remain an officer of a club. As officer, i will have to teach middle school kids about business with a planned curriculum that ultimately culminates in a final report and a competition at the state and possibly national level. What should i do?

the business class. ESP. if you plan on applying "undeclared-pre business intended."

I only took spanish 3, got in, and am going there.

I've always been a believer in making some sort of connection to your academic success, extracurricular activity, and intended future plans. If you aspire to a career in business, and your academic and extracurricular worlds help illustrate that, I think you are at that point "seperating yourself" from others who simply JOIN JOIN JOIN random groups and take random classes. So if you have a track record with this Business club and mentoring these students will count as community service, I'd definitley do that AND make a point of outlining how your experiences mentoring these students has affected you, etc.

This might just be me, but in the "any additional information" section I could see you writing an essay about how those mentoring experiences have helped you learn the value of Business ethics and how business isn't jsut about dollar signs but taking great care of both the consumer and the community. just a thought...

kev..i want to major in econ. any more replies?=)

06h,
It's hard for me to give you any advice because I dont' know your personal prefrences about either classes. Personally, I've always been a believer of learning new languages, so I would take the Spanish class (I also find business to be a tad boring). Frankly, do what feels the best for you.

Don't necessary pick the class becuase you think you will get good grades, take the class that you have a passion for, and want to gain further knowledge from it.

I would love to be in your position. As an aspiring teacher, I would love the opportunity to teach young children.

Hope this helped.

hpdesk:

I don't mean to leave you in a loop, but again I would say that depends on your other factors. I'll tell you this though, my scores were lower than yours. All of them. (I think). But at the same time (and I don't mean for this to sound egotistical) I think I had a good, unique, and personal story to tell in my essays, which seperated me from the rest of the pack.

Your scores are pretty good, just remember there is more to it than that.

Hope that helps.

thanks a lot. I just wanted to know if my scores are compettive or not.. I have really good extra curricular activities and other factors.
