I have abysmal mid-year grades - two C's and a D, and it WILL push my GPA to below 3.0.

By the end of the year, I'm confident I can make those grades B's and C, respectively.

Now note: I've already been accepted! I'm wondering whether they'll rescind the offer based solely on my midyear grades, or whether they'll wait until I finish the year.

Sorry if this has been posted, but I've searched through a bunch of threads and I couldn't find anything. Thanks.

EDIT: The colleges are UWashington @ Seattle and UIllinois @ Urbana Champaigne.

Depends on your gpa before the acceptance and if you've gotten D's or C's before. Need some more background information. Seems like you were hovering around a 3.1. Also what type of classes were they?

I dont think the college will get your mid year report(depends on the college), but when you send the final transcript report with your 2nd semester grades they might see the improvement and not care since you improved. However, rescinding is a strong possibility with these schools.

If it's for semester grades, aren't your colleges asking you to send in a transcript showing your progress? If it's for the quarter, not much of a problem. Worse I could really imagine is a warning letter but...

I had two C's last year, and one C the year before. My overall GPA is around 3.1 unweighted, 5.8 weighted (on a 7.0 scale).

The D was in Multivariable calculus (I'm a year ahead), and the C's were in AP English and AP European History.

Will they actually rescind me purely based on midyear report? Is there a definite answer to this? If they wait for my final transcript, I think I'll be fine. These classes are not TOO difficult; I just need to focus and put in the effort.

I've not gotten any letters from the colleges since my letter of acceptance (and the "You've been admitted! Congratulations!" packet)

They are likely to tell you that, if you fail you pull up your grades to an appropriate level by the end of the year, your offers of admission will be rescinded. No rescissions at this time, probably; rather, you'll get stern warnings and an opportunity to make up for your 1st semester grades.

However, your mid-year grades won't bode well for admission decisions-yet-to-come, I'm afraid..

Call your prospective schools and ask them. You don't have to give your name at this point just ask about their policies and go from there. Friends' son got a D at semester and they called the school. They were told that that he most likely would be recinded. The HS counselor called and talked to the admission officer and the recinsion was waved as long as his grade stayed at a C or above for 2nd semester. It depends on school, other grades, etc. Don't wait, deal with it now if it might be a problem. Waiting until they get your final transcripts might be too late. Good luck.
