So how do I look for NYU Stern ED? I have a low GPA so I am worried about that.

Your unweighted meets the average Stern GPA so no worries, it really is not that low at all. The downward trend might hurt, but again dont worry i have a C in pre-calc for my junior year.

Your sat score puts you well above the stern average and they really love to see that 800 in math. Dont worry too much about your AP scores unless your subject tests dont turn out well.

As for your ECs, they look great. You started your ECs young (in 9th & 10th grade) so NYU knows that you did not add them on junior year simply for padding your application. Also, you have many business oriented clubs which is a boost.

The deciding factor on your application will be how unique and valuable you seem to Stern. Really work hard on the essay and make it as personal as possible.

Im saying you have a 60-75 percent chance of getting in.

also i just saw that you want to major in finance. this is the most popular major at stern and is therefore harder to be accepted for

Thanks, I needed some reassurance. Good luck to you!!

I think your chances are a little higher than average. International games club??? That sounds ridiculous. Raw scores are fine.

this is the second time i’ve heard someone bash a club in this forum.

not ALL ECs are serious. that’s why they’re ECs. if it’s ping pong club, pokemon club, international games club, metal appreciation club, it’s still an EC. if the school thought it was okay to have, then it’s fine. quit bashing people’s choice of activities, jeez.

NuclearPakistan1, dont bash his ECs!

his club activity has been great, he has volunteering, and he has several leadership positions.

however, there are no sports or advanced bands (i.e. area band, all state) listed

letsgo2college, what awards have you won?

I believe I have the liberty to say whatever I want. And if anyone tells you that you have a 60-75% chance of getting into a top 10 school in terms of UG business, they are lying. And just to make sure you guys don’t think I have remorse telling someone the truth about how ridiculous their EC is, I want to take the liberty every citizen in the US is given and say: “Letsgo2college, your international games club is absolutely ridiculous, and is a waste of time to put on your application, as someone on the college admissions committee will overlook it”

There, I feel much better. I am not bashing your EC’s, I am just giving you one person’s opinion, and I do think overall your EC’s look great for Stern.

Calm down guys dont make this into one of those threads that everyone just starts arguing.

I respect the fact that NuclearPakistan1 has given his honest opinion about the International Games Club, and I certainly do not think he is “bashing my ECs.”

If anyone wants to post on this thread, then just tell me what my chances are for Stern and do not interfere with what others have to say. I want the honest opinions of several individuals, not the generic “you have good chances” opinion.

Anyways, back to the main topic. How are my Stern chances?

There isn’t very much to say beyond the “generic” response, though. You either have good chances or you don’t. I’d put you at 50/50 because your GPA is kind of low, your Critical Reading is low, you don’t have any SAT II scores yet, you didn’t mention your AP scores, and your ECs, while impressive, are a little all over the place. Unless you have something specific to write about, I would suggest that you pick out one of your ECs–maybe one of your volunteer jobs–and write about it for your essay. It will demonstrate that you have some sense of focus.

Also, and I know the FBLAs in Jersey do this, enter to compete in one of the regional/state competitions. The tests aren’t hard, and it’s a nice little thing to add to your application.

hey, im in Stern and i have some good news and bad news. Bad news is that Stern is becoming more and more competitive. Good news, i thing you have a good shot, but not great.

just wondering, did anything happen to you to make your gpa fall? or did u just slack off? if something happened to you, lets say your father died and that year was traumatic, you could use that as the reason for your GPA.

In this case I think they might just overlook your GPA. Stern is all about a high math score and that 800 will strongly boost your chances. Overall your scores are great and coupled with your strong ec’s I think if you do ED you will be very competitive. It wouldn’t hurt to try and pull up your GPA though.

that 3.5 will not be good

Hey! I’m a senior whose getting ready for college. Can you guys evaluate me and tell me your opinions on whether you think i can get into Stern or not? I’m debating over whether I should be doing Early Decision or not… would my chances be higher if I did?

Cumulative GPA: 3.45 (unweighted)
I take the IB diploma program, so I’m pretty sure my GPA would get weighted depending on the schools. I know my GPA isn’t the best, and this is my GPA so far from Junior year. If I go early, then this is what they would be seeing. If I apply normally, my GPA this semester I know would be higher, but then again the acceptance rate would go down if I apply with everyone else… right?

My GPA for Junior Year was 3.57 and 3.625

SAT scores

Critical Reading - 700
Writing - 800
Total: 2250

SAT II

Are my chances okay? Do you think I will be able to get in? I’m hoping my admission essay, other activities and SAT scores make up for my GPA. I also attend an international school in Japan. Thanks for the help!
