can this get me into Georgetown University?

I am about to end my senior year and have just received my SAT results. It was the first time I had taken it and my total score in critical reading, math, and writing was 1420. I got a 9/12 in the essay.

I am an active member of the soccer varsity and was part of the volleyball varsity but gave it up for soccer. I am in the Debate varsity and have been recognized as a pretty decent member. I do countless hours of community service and other volunteer work in health centers. I have had 2 years of experience in Student Government. Joined the Theater club in school for my sophomore year and the Religious club for my junior year. for my senior year, I am currently a Cadet (Junior R.O.T.C.).

My GPA last year was the least bit interesting: 3.1

How is this so far ?

Thank you! Your responses will truly make me see the other side of things.

Your SAT is out of 2400? If so, that combined with your 3.1 put you at the extreme low end of accepted students. Unless you’re of recruitable caliber in soccer, I’d say you should really, really expand your target colleges.

Even if you are internationally ranked in soccer, your chances of getting into Georgetown with a 1420/2400 are virtually nonexistant.

1450? Do you have a learning disability?

1450 is only slightly below average and thus not indicative of a learning disability.

Unless there are other extenuating circumstances that you have not stated, a GPA of 3.1 and such a low SAT score, your chances of getting in are less than 1%.

Is it the location, time of campus environment, etc. that you like? If you expand on what you like in the college maybe others could recommend different colleges more within your reach.

Either he has alearning disability or he is delusional.

well i was about to say don’t be so harsh guys, but seeing as i was going to comment i smell ■■■■■ i can’t really say that :P

however, if yer not ■■■■■■■■ then your chances are slim :S, and as T26E4 said, expand your college list. why on earth did ye leave it this late to take the sat’s?

and dya have any sat 2s? because georgetown is the one of the handful that require 3 sat 2s…

gl if yer not a ■■■■■ :o

I think you should start looking at some other schools.

:/
georgetown college maybe?
ha

How did you pull off a 1420…?

On a positive note, your ECs are nice :)

Yeah, I would look for some other schools. But, hey, if you want to take a shot go for it. It’s gonna be a pretty long shot, though.
@figureskater - good for you for seeing a positive. It makes all the advice a little easier to take.

some of the things said here are pretty much low blows. I thank everyone for taking the time to give me their opinion, i really appreciate it (:

aside from this i also have 2 strong recommendations one from my advisor and the other one is from my economics teacher. I also forgot to mention that I founded this group wherein I speak to high school students about modesty, “spur of the moment” events and social networking and all that. I also manage a “Home for the Aged” center wherein we now house 25 and in addition a few orphan boys. (:

sabine – you asked a legitimate question and rec’d mostly informed replies. Sorry if you see it as a “low blow”

Congrats on your group and getting good rec letters. However, you should seriously seriously research the SATs and GPA of accepted students and see how you compare. Without any doubt, those are the first criteria that Georgetown will consider. First and foremost, they are academic institutions. Having strongish ECs will not overcome outlier academic metrics.
