I am currently a junior and am taking precalc honors. I am planning to take the SAT Math level 1 subject test January of the coming year..and the SAT during sometime around there.

Am I playing it safe by using the content of Math Level 1 as means to study for SAT Math section? or should i study for them independently?

Since you’re in precalc, I’d recommend you consider taking Math II instead of Math I.

If you do go with Math I, much of the content will be similar, but I’d still take some practice tests for each test to make sure you’re ready for both.

You should definitely study for the two subjects independently. The SAT-R is a reasoning test that tests your ability to think and how fast you can do the problems, while the SAT Math Level 1 is pretty much a “knowledge” test.
