I am a freshman in University F, the world's worst university. Last year in Highschool I got into an amazing school that was perfect for me and perfect in general, University A. That is where I really wanted and still want to be. How I got to University F does not concern us in this specific discussion.

I graduated as the head of my class at a top high school. Now, attending University F, I am one student of tens of thousands at a big state school and I have As, Bs, and I believe a C or two (mostly Bs). The likelihood of getting (re)accepted as a transfer into University A is very low. It is a highly selective and prestigious private research institution.

That being said, there is another school, University B, which would not make me happy, but would make me slightly less upset than I am now. I plan to apply to University A and University B. If I am accepted to A, I do not have a problem. However, if I am not accepted to A, then I have a real dilemma. Chances are very high that I will be accepted to University B. I am thinking, if it comes to it, that I could transfer to University B and from there apply the next year to once again attempt getting back in to University A. In essence, taking baby steps to make my life less miserable.

Would that make me a weaker transfer candidate the year after? If I transferred to B and then tried again to transfer to A? I fear that transferring to B would make me seem like I have serious problems because I would then be applying to a third school for my third year of school. However, the other option, staying at University F for another year and still hoping to transfer, is unwise. I hate the idea of finishing one year here, much more so another year after that.

What are your thoughts? Can I safely transfer to University B if I was left with no other choice, but still pursue transferring to University A, where I really would give anything (and had given everything during all of high school) to be right now? Are there any things I can do to enhance my transfer applicant appeal? The transfer applications ask so little of you.... no more essays about deep thought. Just report your grades and write an essay on why you want to transfer. They do not ask much about you or your life so my transfer application, compared to a top-of-the-class senior with a wide array of interests, is extremely weak.
