Can tuition rates be locked in?

Can my parents lock into the tuition rate at a college? The college is now 47K a year and my parents are wondering how to lock into that rate, if at all possible. Thanks for any advice.

You have to check with the particular school as some schools do allow you to prepay and lock in your tuition rate.

some colleges do lock. However, it requires you to prepay the tuition for 2 to 4 years at the first year's rate. This in generally for tuition only, not room, board and fees.

Hiram College in OH locks it for all four years w/o prepayment. Many college are open to your suggestion, so just ask if your have an arrangment in mind.

Some states have a program that allows parents to lock in the current cost of college tuition for their children and pay it over the years until their children reach 18. By that time, their college will be paid for completely at the tuition rate when they were younger. Check with your state's department of higher education. I know my state (MS) has it.

Oh gosh, I didn't even think about what I suggested. You're obviously not a child, so the program I suggested probably won't help at all. Hrmm. I guess you should go with everyone else's suggestion - check with the college.

My D got that guaranteed tuition lock-in at Hiram and believe me , what a lifesaver it was with tuitions going up everywhere !
