Can two people hold class rank 1?

strange thing happened. one classmate of mine has practically the exact same transcript as i do (the subjects of the classes differ but our grades and honors, AP leve etc are the same)

i'm ranked number 1, but he says he is too..

so does that mean there are two people who have rank 1s?? i mean.. is this possible? i always thought only one person holds a specific numbered rank.

or did my school mess up?

If it works like most other ranking systems, you will both be number one, the next student will be number 3. My son's class had 8 number 1's.

For two number one's your grade point averages would have to be the same which seems possible -- that would mean there could be more that two!

Right now I'm #1.. and there are 3 other people that are also ranked #1. So there are 4 people tied for valedictorian at my school currently.

So yeah, you can have more than one.

Yeah it says it right on the Common App school report. "What is this student's class rank... How many people share this rank?" So obviously colleges are anticipating this practice.

yes 2 yrs ago, our school had 2 valedictorians.
