Is there any more information you could give us, such as what features you want in a college, your unweighted GPA, any test scores? That would help us to narrow down your list.

Perhaps you should assess the actual likelihood of you going out of state. You mention in-state as one of your main desires, but also list a bunch of out of state colleges that you’re planning to apply to.

How many of those would you really choose over the in-state colleges? I would bet that you can eliminate a fair few based on that.

to answer highopes idk my UW GPA if i do good this yer would be about 3.7-3.8. i want to go to a college where its fun and at the same time get a good education. i havent taken the SAT yet but i am this october. i took this practice SAT and i got ~1500 but i fell asleep in the math and CR section. haha lol.

Hanajima: i like cali a lot but i want to get out of SD for awhile. LA is the area i want to go so im considering UCLA and UCI there. the thing is with all those OOS colleges i listed is that i just want to shoot for it, give it a try, especially Princeton. and if i dont make it into the top UC schools and make it to an OOS school, i can count on the OOS school.
- top instate school for me is UCLA, UCSD, UCB, and ~~UCI

I still think that you should narrow your out-of-state list. Your post sounds a lot like you’re wanting to use the OOS schools as safeties, or at least somewhat of a fallback. While this is fine, you have a lot of schools that you are unlikely to get into if you don’t get into the UCs, so I don’t know why they’re there if you wouldn’t choose them over the UCs.

Try narrowing the OOS schools down to “schools you would go to even if you got into UCSD,” and maybe one match and one safety.

Any other characteristics you’d like in a college? Large vs. small? A big Greek scene? Religious affiliation?

I agree with Hanajima. If you want to stay in state, why bother applying to a million out of state schools? That’s kind of a waste of money. If you’re not planning on going to those schools, don’t waste your time and money applying.

You should be fine looking at UCs and CSUs.
