Okay I am a senior and was just accepted into Vanderbilt. I may get a C in AP Chemistry as I now have learned it is not my strong point. If I get a C could Vanderbilt rescind my admission? I’ve gotten A’s and B’s throughout my high school career if that helps.
What does your conditional acceptance say about senior year GPA and grade requirements?
Please note that your enrollment at Vanderbilt is contingent upon the successful completion of your current academic program with a level of academic performance and good citizenship commensurate with your current level of achievement.
This was all that was told to me
I don’t think one C will be cause for them to rescind your acceptance. I’ve never heard of that happening. The best way to be sure is to contact them directly for more clarification.
With that vague wording, in theory, there is risk if your senior year grades or GPA are any lower than past grades or GPA.
However, the risk of rescission is generally considered low unless the GPA drop is substantial, or you earn a D or F grade.
Of course, the “citizenship” bit indicates that behavioral incidents (e.g. social media posts that become a public embarrassment) could also be risky.
You can always be ask directly to get a specific answer from the college.
Any college can rescind an offer of admission. In general, however, one C should not be an issue. The rule often quoted on CC is to avoid D’s, F’s and felonies. So keep the rest of your grades up and do whatever is necessary (ex. meet with teacher for extra help, use online resources, get a tutor if needed) to keep AP Chem at a C or above.
And congrats on Vandy!
Can they - they most likely have the right to, based on the wording in your acceptance letter.
Will they - I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an offer rescinded for a C. It takes something more serious than that.
