I'm still conflicted over whether to put myself on the waiting list =

I think I'm sure that I'll put myself on the Stanford one, but I don't know how badly I want to go to Columbia.. since I got accepted to UPenn & it was one of my top choices. >_< (plus their financial package is awesome - i only have to pay like $1000/yr? I'm sold)

I just sent in my "supplementary statement"... I was hoping to get it in before to show my interest... It's already four days after... :S Oh well.

@ jedimaster where did you submit your supplementary essay?? is there a way to submit it online or do i have to mail it in?? (or actually, can i fax it?? im international and it takes ages for mail to get to the US)

Twenty nine off the wait list is a scarily small amount of people!
One of them is actually from my school(:
My alum interviewer wrote a letter to the regional admissions officer for me, so hopefully that helps.
My Georgetown interviewer asked me if I'd met any famous people recently who would vouch for me.. unfortunately, not yet!

Is it better to send in the supplement ASAP? B/c I kinda wanted to visit first, to show my passion for the school and whatnot. And what about sending in a CD recording of me playing on a instrument (even though I'm not majoring in music)?

i have put off writing this waitlist letter for way too long now! it is happening tonight. fact. but i guess i am just unsure of the letter's exact purpose..my instinct is just to convey my crazy enthusiasm for the school and why i believe it is a good fit for me. but i have a friend who says he focused on explaining the reasons behind things he feels might have kept him from getting in (why his grades weren't the best during his first two years of high school, etc).

is this more of a chance to show them how much you want it (or is that taken for granted in the first place??) or to explain/account for the weaker areas of your application?

so you can only write a short letter of appeal to columbia right?
i bet everyone on the waitlist is doing that.. haha
so uh.. how do you send it again?

columbia says the waitlist is not ranked, but common think about it that's BS. they must stratify the students in someway, if not specific 1,2,3, at least in tiers. no admission officers are going to completely re-read your application

It's probably very likely that they already did put students in tiers, but think of it this way: they had approximately three to four months to review ~22,000 students (around 5,500 students a month at least). Now they have 15 to 30 days to re-review roughly 1,000 to 2,000 (?) applicants. I'm sure they'll be able to examine the apps over again thoroughly enough.

I called them today and they told me to just send in the one page "Why I want to go to Columbia" thing. I do not think that they know how many waitlisted students will be pulled off.

well not everyone turned in their reply cards yet. I know several people who are not going to Columbia for sure, but they didn't send in the "no I am not coming" yet

Well is not the deadline to send in the "Yes I am going" response by May 1st or does the school allow them to send in that anytime? I'm not sure but I know that University of California schools have that policy.
