Can we keep the off-topic discussions in the acceptance/denial threads out of them?

I remember during the days when I was worried about applying to colleges, having to sift through dozens of pages of worthless pack and forth comments to finally find something relevant about what I was looking for.

Please. Everyone is worried about getting accepted/rejected. That's why we are here in the first place.

And do you HAVE to fill several pages worth of what your favorite TV show is? That is absolutely worthless clutter.

lol, relax. We’re not breaking any rules. We have no obligation of any kind to keep these threads of ours free of clutter. The off-topic discussions we engage in have value in that they alleviate the stress that we are all experiencing in anticipation of the release of admissions decisions.

You know, I’ve sifted through some old decision threads myself in search of information, but not once did I complain to anyone that there’s too much clutter in these threads because I realized that it is inevitable to have off-topic discussions and to talk about interesting subjects. I also realized that the participants in these threads had every right to talk about what they want in these threads. It’s not like it’s harming anyone. If it is, I defy you to show me how.

Lol you tell 'em @Cayton

I feel conflicted about this. On one hand, it’s obvious that everyone here is anxious about their decisions to the respective schools they applied to and it’s no surprise and only natural that people start talking about random things to pass the time. Generally, it’s contained in one topic so it’s not too bad.

On the other hand, it does make it more difficult for future readers of the topics to shift through. The majority of them will want to know the dates decisions got released and the stats for the people who got admitted/rejected. Some people here seem to not give a flying **** about future applicants and it does seem kind of selfish to me. This forum has been a pretty valuable and insightful resource for the entire UC transfer process and there will be people next year who will be in our shoes. Seeing as how everything gets archived for future viewing, I think being a little considerate about the future applicants would be beneficial for everyone. Sort of like leaving your campsite better than it was before? I feel this way because I actually went through the hundreds of posts for last year’s topics for UCI and UCSD and it was a bit time-consuming to sift through all the useless posts that contributed nothing at all.

There isn’t much you can do about the off-topic posting in the threads and just like I and maybe some other members slogged through all the useless replies, the students for next year and beyond will have to do the same.

I definitely see where you’re coming from and I also understand Cayton’s viewpoint. The only things I can’t stand is people continuously bringing up the stupid housing BS in the UCSD thread and people freaking out like idiots because they didn’t get in on the first batch. Some people can be so damn impatient to the point that it’s pathetic.

I don’t get why people get so upset over this - this happens every year. There are decision statistics only posts for a reason. Adding a “date accepted” area would be a helpful addition for this year. I mean, it’s kind of too late at this point when we have 1.6k threads where decisions haven’t even come out yet.

And if it’s not statistics you’re looking for a quick search will usually get you an answer.

All next year’s applicants would have to do is find the page where people actually started getting accepted. From there on it’s pretty much all decisions. It’s only before decisions come out that we talk about “worthless” things. Next year’s applicants will do the exact same thing. Cayton is right that these discussions are a form of stress therapy for us. It feels good to talk with people who are in the same boat.

@TransferUCDerp Thank you so much for starting this thread. This has been such a pet peeve of mine for the last two years, and I really think it’s an indicator of how inconsiderate this generation of applicants is.

@smltk1505h You’re absolutely right, these decision threads are more for statistical purposes than anything. They’re supposed to be tools for current and future applicants to determine the admittance trends of the schools and not as sources of stress relief as Cayton has stated.

@Cayton, wintergreeen, credulitykills, and music1990 Yes, technically you are not breaking any rules, but you are making it difficult for future applicants. If you want to have useless discussions, go to a transfer thread, not the decision threads. Go back about three or four years ago and see how organized the threads were. Do you realize that as I’m writing this, the UCLA decision thread has 54 pages, UCB has 19, and UCSD has 108. 108!!! How is it that acceptable to you guys? So next year’s applicants have to sift through 108 pages of useless discussions about housing applications and chance questions to find the information they’re looking for. That is unacceptable.

Personally, I think the current decision threads should be deleted, and we should just start over. There is absolutely no reason why a decision thread needs to be started two months before decisions come out. I came on this site almost five years ago when I started at community college, and although I’m about to graduate in June, I still like to come on here around application time and give advice where I can and also to reminisce about the days when I was a nervous little transfer prospect. Unfortunately, I think this site is in a period of decline, and most of you guys are just really inconsiderate.

Why dont we do what past years did and make one thread with all final stats of all schools, thats the easiest thing to do for future applicants. They can look at one thread

<a href=“***STATISTICS ONLY**** The unofficially OFFICIAL COMPREHENSIVE UC Admissions Thread - UC Transfers - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1327611-statistics-only-the-unofficially-official-comprehensive-uc-admissions-thread.html</a></p>

On the one hand, I agree. On the other hand, what’s wrong with forming camaraderie with the people you may end up going to school with?

Asking everyone to act like robots and only post about their statuses? People have feelings too. Good luck, bro.

@peacelovescience There’s nothing wrong with that at all, that’s not what I’m saying. The problem is the decision threads aren’t the places for that. Go to one of the school transfer threads to connect with people. I did that when I was preparing to transfer, but we kept the decision threads clear from unnecessary conversations.

No I agree with you OP. I originally mentioned this a few days ago and was also told to “relax” by @Cayton‌ lol. Clearly we are out of control :P.

I like the idea of creating a post-decision thread with just stats of admits/rejections. So long as people come back haha.

“It’s not like it’s harming anyone. If it is, I defy you to show me how.” It has a direct negative impact on myself and the other current applicants who come on to CC for information on the decision timeline only to get stuck with several pages of BS that could have been and SHOULD have been put into private messages.

I’m not trying to be some kind of dictator and I do recognize that people should be free to share pleasantries but you guys have blown this ■■■■ so out of proportion and if you don’t see this you need to go back to the UCLA or UCSD threads and look at the 3-5 people who are creating the majority of the posts.

Seriously guys, what’s the point in caring so much about something so trivial? I say let people have their fun and talk about what they want to talk about to pass the time.

There is a search function available in all threads… I just type in my major into past decision threads and I usually find what Im looking for fairly easily.

I think it bothers me more when I still have not heard back from any school and people comment useless things and I think decisions have come out. D::::::: I’m literally losing my marbles over here.

It is for you, but it’s also for future users. I’ve probably emphasized the future user aspect too much because you’re right, current users are the priority. If you want to connect, just go to the transfer thread for the school, not the decision thread. A simple congratulations is fine, but anything more than that should go to the transfer thread. Don’t you guys want an organized thread where you don’t have to deal with five people having a conversation that takes up four pages?

And now this thread will be filled with “junk”. Honestly, @Cayton. People are going to look at the clutter regardless. Actually, they WANT to look at it. The way we talked about housing and all those other pointless ( but maybe accurate?) things is something that they want to check as well. It’s part of the waiting game. Now they will enjoy people disagreeing and agreeing with you instead. Again, part of the waiting game ;)

@Mik194‌

I agree. I certainly liked looking at the back-and-forth from last year’s UCLA transfer thread, for example. I learned just how agonizing it was for those guys to see UCLA push back the decisions date from the 19th to the 26th…

@Cayton, RamonaFalls, and xxcapital Maybe you guys are right, maybe I’m just a relic of a better and more civilized time that’s worn out his welcome. If you guys like disorganization than there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s really a shame because this site used to be really helpful.

@Mik194 I see what you’re saying, but why not just make it easy and go to the transfer thread? Why destroy the organization within the decision threads when it can be avoided? Why even have a thread title when you’re just going to post whatever you want anyways? It’s all just so illogical.

I’m going to be watching Donnie Darko today. Then some baseball
