Can we talk about holiday cards?

The last few years, I’ve had left overs that we found while moving and were able to send those out but this year I actually need to buy new ones… and I just have to ask- why on earth are they so expensive?! Am I doing something wrong?

Anyway, what are some of your favorite places to get cards. The ones I’ve been finding are very generic and I’m not sure where to start… Amazon isn’t helpful!

Give me your wisdom, CC!

Ok, I’ll talk about them…but I refuse to send any out!!!

When I DID do cards, I’d always try and buy them after Christmas for the next year - much cheaper and seemed to always be a good selection left. I did want something I liked - not dollar store cards - but I didn’t want to spend the amount of $$ some people do!

I love holiday cards from Papyrus. They are expensive but vey nice quality. What I do is buy them after Christmas when they are 50 to 75 percent off and using them the following year. My friends always give me compliments on them.http://www.papyrusonline.com/stationery/boxed-holiday-cards-2.html

I have gotten UNICEF cards at Pier One in the past and been pleased with them.

Too bad you don’t live near the charity thrift store where I volunteer. We are selling packs of cards 20/$2.50. And they are beautiful ones. Lots of choices.

Are there any thrift stores near you that sell Christmas items? Lots of folks donate their unused cards. You might find a great deal.

I have also gotten cards at World Market and been really happy with them.

@abasket I truly wish that e-cards were socially acceptable. I’d MUCH rather send those out.

I want to send out cards for mostly selfish reasons- I want to get them.

@thumper1 I hadn’t thought about that, but I will check with my few local thrift shops!

I was going to suggest World Market. I think that’s where I got mine last year.

I used to love sending holiday cards. I’d write them over TG weekend and mail in early December. As I’ve gotten older, though, it just became (to me) an unneeded expense because everybody already knows what I’m up to thanks to Facebook.

I love holiday cards! This year I am doing New Year cards because I want to try to get a photo of the kids together.

And of course there is the fact that DH and his HS buddies keep up with one another by virtue of their wives sending out Christmas cards.

I got inspired to send them last year but I had gone 2-3 years before that without sending them.

The only one we have received so far this year is from a funeral home. How depressing is that?

We’ve never been a family that sends holiday cards for yearly updates (except to our family overseas who, even now, don’t use things like social media). Rather, it’s just one of those “thinking of you!” things.

I admit, I’m lazy about sending them… but I do love receiving them!

I don’t think they need to be expensive for people to enjoy getting them with a little note. 3…2…1 waiting for the thread if holiday newsletters are a joy or a burden. I love getting cards and newsletters and pictures. Glad to see you are sending cards. I know some say it’s repetitious after facebook, but I still love getting them.

There are just some people that don’t send cards.
I like to send them but there are those who won’t acknowledge receiving them or send them.

I’ve gotten some at Marshall’s. $4.99/20 cards

I love sending out Christmas cards. Before I was married, they were out right after Thanksgiving. Now that I have so many other things to do, it was the task that often got dropped due to time. I’ve been making more of an effort the past few years, though, simply because I do enjoy it. I like reading through my list of family and friends, looking at the various address changes, names of spouses and children that have been added throughout the years, and even remembering those who are no longer with us. And same as @romanigypsyeyes, part of it is that I also love to receive them. I think if you don’t send them, you can’t complain that people aren’t sending them anymore! (I do give the seniors a pass after all their years.) My mom had it drilled into my head that post-Christmas shopping included picking up cards, tags and wrap for next year (never pay full price!) but a good substitute is stores like Target, WalMart, etc. I don’t like to spend a whole lot because for the most part, they just end up getting tossed after the holiday.

TJMaxx has boxes and boxes of Chritmas cards! Quite reasonably priced.

Others beat me to it, but as with sooooo many things, TJMaxx, Ross, and Marshall’s are your friends! (Even better at after-Christmas sales, but at this time of year they will likely be your best bet.

I bet everyone on your list is hoping to get a wedding photo from you this year!
