No, you have to wait a year to transfer. Also, Sternies take Econ classes with CAS Econ people, so you will be getting a Stern-caliber education, but without the name.

so if i do transfer after 1 year, do i have to do a whole transfer application (just like ppl form other unis wanting to transfer to nyu) ?

or can i automatically get into stern according to my first year grades at CAS as i'm already at nyu anyway?

There's an internal transfer process but there's no guarantee that it will happen. This is why they recommend you apply to the college you actually want to study at, right from the beginning.

Stern allow about 3 people to transfer in per year... its not gunna happen. Tho only shcool u really can internal transfer into is CAS , the other ones never have room.

Liefde,

Internal transfers at NYU are pretty rare these days. There was a time when the process was very simple (when I was at NYU...which is not THAT long ago), you'd just fill out an internal transfer form, and the next semester you'd be in the NYU school of your choice. So it used to be very automatic (except Tisch-never was, never will be), even people from GSP would transfer into the school they wanted. Around my sophomore or junior year...they made changes to the cirriculum, and the result was that internal transfers became very hard, and these days they are never guaranteed for ANY school.

CAS and Stern have very different core courses and requirements in general....for this reason, it would be difficult for you to transfer into Stern, and probably next to impossible for you to transfer and actually graduate in 4 years due to the different requirements amongst the schools. Also, Stern is a pretty small school, so like Matt said they take very few transfers (transfer admission to any school is always based on the number of spots they have available--so even if you have the stats, you're still not getting in if they have no room for you).

My advice: apply to the school you want to go to or don't apply at all since you certainly don't want to come to a school with the the pre-emptive goal of transferring out..you'll be miserable there.

Good luck.

-NYU class of '00

thanks for all your input. i think i will apply to stern afterall
