Yeah, I am sure the out of state factor will kill me for the large state schools like virginia or california because my transcript is not incredible, but in terms of some other schools, what are some realistic business schools I should begin to look at?

If i got my SAT scores upto 1375-1400 which is def. possible since I now have a tutor, and before I had not really prepared for it. How much more do my chances increase for those schools?

stlrams2006:

UCLA: Reach (out of state)
UCB: Reach (out of state)
Virginia: Reach
USC: Reach
Northwestern: Reach
Georgetown: Reach
Clemson: Match (?)
Emory: Reach
UNC-Chapel Hill: Reach (out of state)

Dude, your EC's and scores are kinda like mine, if you write good essays get get recs, both of us might have chances. Unless you have the personality of a wet dish cloth or something.

hahaha the personality will probably be my strength in the process, I just need to present myself in a very unique way so I can stand out as a quality individual. My college counselor said that if I can create the platform of very well rounded, which I am, I just don't have much quantity when it comes to activities. Wrestling and boy scouts keep me very busy!

Bigmac what schools are u looking at?

Thats the exact same way I feel. I want a well rounded image and intend on playing the midwesterner charm. Football in nebraska keeps me very busy it's practically a year round experience and I also work hard for my money. I hope admissions officers see this. I am looking at USC, WUSTL, Penn, BC, WISc-mad, and Mich-ann. My test scores will go up with mad practice

peace

ya i need mine to go up as well, i did alright with little to no prep, with a tutor i think theyll boost up.

Even with a 1400 SAT, the UCs, UVA, UNC are going to be super reaches, really lottery tickets, and your grades are going to hurt you. Northwestern though a reach is a possibility as I have known kids from prep schools with mid 1300s get in there with a 3.5 average. The same with GT, though it is more selective than NW. USC and Emory would be reach/matches.

Just to expand a bit on what jamimom said - the state schools are more likely to be formulaic - you need certain gpa - and it will be higher for out of state applicants. Private uni's and lac's that can look at the whole applicant, and realize the quality of your education.

You are in a minority on this board in that your college counselor probably really does know what he or she is talking about, at least for schools where they have relationships. If the relationship does not exist, be a little careful. We want all of you to be happy - and not have to answer 'Rejected Everywhere' threads next April!

^^ thanks for the advice, i will def. take it seriously, and I totally understand how they can be selective on GPA only.

Several kids in our school were accepted to Indiana's Kelly School of Business very early in the app process which made a nice safety. Clemson would do the same. If you like South Carolina, Universtiy of South Carolina and College or Charleston are nice safeties for you as well. Of the top state schools, Michigan would be a likely but a reachmatch but they appear to scrutinze the whole picture of an applicant more than some state schools do, as some kids at our school did get in there with grades similar to yours and a 1400 SAT. You should get out your apps early for those state schools. Then you can have some fun and pick some reaches and see how it goes. Find out what are some likely schools that your school will give you a bit of an advantage--you GC can tell you what those may be. Or just stick with those on your list.

my school sent 9 people from a class of 160 to the university of southern california, and my grades and scores are very similar to those of the ones admitted. Right now, I really like USC's business at Marshall, but we'll see how it turns out.
