My oldest only applied to rolling and regular admission schools so I don't have experience with this. My d may be applying to a school with a very low admittance rate. SHe also wants to apply to some state schools that have early deadlines and some other schools that have early deadlines for scholarships. The school with the very low admittance rate is ED or RD. We don't have an issue with financial aid since it is automatic with her program (GI BIll). As long as she withdraws any applications or acceptances if she does get in ED, is there any problem applying to the others at the same time or earlier? SHe would only apply to one school ED.

Early deadlines are different from ED, she should be fine. If she gets in ED, make sure to withdraw application from other schools to free up spots for other students.

Yes, generally, but check the specific regulations for the schools.

Depends. Some ED schools do NOT let you apply anywhere else EA.

A very few schools are SCEA (Single Choice Early Admission) so for these few schools a student can not submit any other ED or EA applications … as others mentioned the safest best is to check the specific colleges under consideration to see if they have any restrictions on their particular ED or EA program.

Yes, but if he gets accepted to the ED school he’ll HAVE to go there unless of financial issues.

You shouldn’t have any problems with rolling/early deadline but EA might be an issue depending on which school she is applying to ED.

I think anyone who’s applying ED should also apply to some rolling admissions schools (especially those with early scholarship deadlines).

Last January, there were several kids who were upset that their FA packages from their ED acceptances were lousy (because they didn’t realize their EFCs would be soooo unaffordable high). But, then it was too late to apply for scholarships at many schools that award big scholarships for stats. Many of such schools have Nov 15th, Dec 1st, or Dec 15th deadlines for scholarship apps.

Even SCEA schools allow applications to rolling admissions public schools. For example, Yale says:

Also remember that some schools, such as Georgetown and BC, do not allow a student to apply ED anywhere if he or she applies to them EA.

She should be fine, but of course, as noted above, always read the fine print for each school.

I was always under the impression that you could apply to a rolling school, even if you applied ED or EA.
