My Ss favorite chemistry teacher will be leaving his school in a few months. He would ask her to write his recommendation letter next year. Can he ask the teacher who is no longer teaching at his school, to write recommendation letter? Is it better to ask other teachers?

I would most certainly do this. To my knowledge it doesn't matter whether the teacher is currently at the school. If that did matter, your S's GC could quote from the letter in the GC rec and your S could use two other teachers.

My D is asking the former A.D. to write her a recommendation. She's also asking a coach from her club soccer team (who is a teacher at a different school). We had asked the guidance counselor if all this was okay and she said that was fine. She said that admissions likes to see recommendations from teachers/coaches who actually know the kid.
