Is it possible to be admitted to PSU but not accepted into the business school (with the option of transferring into it later)?

I think you either get into your major or your rejected.

You can be accepted into the business school without being admitted to the main campus.

Smeal has entrance to major requirements that must be met or in progress before you formally declare a major. Basically, you have to complete certain core business and general education courses before you can declare your major. Generally you declare you major at the end of the 1st semester of your sophomore year and begin taking courses in your major in your junior year at main campus.

These entrance to major requirements can be met at any of the campuses, but you have to attend main campus in your junior and senior years in order to graduate from Smeal.

Some of the more popular majors may have minimum gpa requirements. For example, you might have to have a 3.0 gpa to major in finance. You should probably check with someone in the business school for the details.

Smeal is one of the tougher schools to get into at UP. If you applied to Smeal at UP, you will be evaluated by that school - and if your numbers aren't good enough, they may defer you to another campus for the first two years. You can be in Smeal at another campus.
I know a few kids who were waiting through late January, and then switched their major (listed on the app) to DUS and got immediately accepted to UP. Beware though that it might be tougher to get into Smeal using this route. They control majors and have stringent course requirements. Min GPA for Finance is 3.3 and you apply after you complete the first semester of your sophomore year. Other majors have min GPA of 3.0.
Good luck!

Hey, thought I would let you guys know that I was waiting to get into smeal as of Januaryb 17th and nothing had been made. I called and decided to switch to DUS on the 17th and on the 18th a decision was made. Today, i found out i was accepted. Since buisness isnt my only interest, this switch to DUS was a big decision I made, and it definitley helped my chances in my opinion.

Stats: 3.74/4.33 gpa. My school does not rank, but i have 5 AP classes. it is out of a 4.33 because an A+ counts for a 4.33 when factoring the gpa.
Sat scores m:650, critical: 590.

Best of luck to all of those still waiting, i know how it feels.

i've heard a lot of stories similar to victorboy .. where kids are waiting for months to hear back from smeal, and decide to change to the DUS major, and end up getting in within a day.

i know someone who applied to pre vet as their major, but their stats were very low so they sent her a letter saying "apply to a different major and we will reconsider your applicaton"
