Can you be denied the major you applied for?

I applied for Computer Science Engineering. If the engineering school doesn’t accept me, will I still be offered admission as “Exploratory?”

At least in the past, they have brought students as `science and technology exploration’ if they applied for engineering, met the OSU admission bar, but not the college of engineering bar.

I remember reading somewhere that for international applicants, they do not use science and technology exploration and simply deny them. Not sure if this is true now (or ever was).

@Fafjoe22 Good Question. You may want to email admissions directly, they are very good about getting back. When applying to Columbus campus for College of Engineering (where CS is housed) the standards are higher then the general ‘average’ to get into the school. My S applied last year for CS and was accepted with a 3.95GPA, comes from a catholic college prep HS, in state and a 31 ACT/32 super. I understand everyone is accepted as a “pre-major” and you have to have a certain GPA, etc. after a specified period of time to declare your official major. I did not sit in on this info session so I am not entirely clear on this. I would think that if you were not accepted on the Columbus campus, they may accept you on another campus, then you could transfer after a year. I don’t believe they would put you into exploratory but, you should email admissions for clarification.
