Can you be honest?

I really want to be cahnced for emerson, but I need you to be totally honest. I'm currently a junior, but I just toured Emerson and it is officailly my dream school.
gpa of 3.5 unweighed
4.0 weighed
in top 25% of class...but just barely. I have a really competitive class.
I am taking 2 AP classes. I am very active in my community, have gone on trips to Louisiana to build homes for hurricane katrina victims, I have 5 leadership roles (predient through social chair roles).
SAT score of 1780, yeah not great but I am so bad at standerdized tests, I like freak with the time limits. Yeah, poor excuse I know.
I want to go into literature studies.
Anything else you need to know?
I had pretty average grades freshmen year straight A's, with one A minus sophmore year, and am struggling a bit this year with practically teh same number as A's as I have B's.
CHANCE ME PLEASE.

I am sitting here with my daughter that attends Emerson and she said you are in

Thanks so much, your daughter must love it there!

Anyone else?

I would suggest that you be involved in more creative activities if you aren't already. Do you have a lit magazine at your school? Newspaper? Maybe write or contribute to those. Otherwise, I'd say that you're good.

If you do EA, you're in

I'm an editor for my school yearbook, but sadly we don't have a lit magazine. I am in yearbook, community service club, habitat for humanity, a peer supervisor, student council, and the art club. I have a chair position in all but one of them. I will look to update that though.
I will definetly apply EA, I simply wouldn't be able to wait until April to see if I got in.

One new problem is I think I bombed the SAT on Saturday, like a medium 500 on all sections. I am so bad at standardized testing...

Thanks for both the comments though!

I hate to be negative but don't get your hopes up. I think you definitely have a shot of getting in, but do not get overly optimistic. I was also in love with Emerson, would have done anything to go there but was ultimately rejected. My stats were not too far from yours, I had a 3.55 unweighted (we didn't weight grades, but I had taken 11 honours courses and 5 APs, so I assume it would have been in the 3.8-3.9 range) and got a 27 on the ACT (not sure how that translates to your SAT score). Emerson has gotten harder to get into every year. I'm pretty confident it was my GPA and ACT that killed me (I had lots of extracurriculars and one of the top management positions in my school) so my recommendation is to keep taking the SAT to try and bring up your score and to try and bring up your GPA.

I know you don't want to wait until April to find out, but brace yourself for the possibility of being deferred, the waiting is hard.

Good luck!

I actually have a 3.6 unweighed, not that much of a diffrence. But I have only taken 6 honors classes and 1 AP, though I am taking atleast 4 honors course next year and an AP.
Thank you very much for your imput, if you didn't get in I don't think I'd be able to. As much as I hate to admit that, but you seem extremely qualified. I guess I will have to rely on luck. Thanks for the suggestions though, and I will try my hardest. I really appreciate the honesty too, it is very helpful!

Anyone else, I'd really apreciate any words of advise or even a quick yes or no.
Be as brutal as needed. I can take it :)

Hopeful, Don't act like it's too late to increase your chances. Take advantage of whatever opportunities are available in your town. What are your plans for summer? Do something that demonstrates you are pursuing your passion.

My daughter is interested in filmmaking and has started interning (volunteering) at the local public access TV station. She didn't start doing this until late summer before her senior year. It still was enough time to be able to discuss the experience in her application.

I'd say you have a good chance at getting in. You're only like ten points below they average SAT score for there anyway.

Thank you so much for both the comments.
And Jane than kyou for the intern idea, I'll look into it. I planned on working all summer but I could probably find the time.

haha don't worry i have a 3.17 and i got in! i think the trick is a really good essay :)

Wow congrats! I'm not so much worried about my essay, but I've been doing some reasearch and it just seems that Emerson accpetence are all over the place, its hard to tell what they really focus on. I've seen people with 800's on SAT sections turned down, and then people in the top 10% getting turned down, and it makes me worry that if these brilliant people can't make it I surely couldn't.
These year especially it seems there were a lot of suprsing waitlistings.

i think the main thing is sticking out you know? it seems that they really want to see personality and stuff. you'll be fine! just be confident :)
