I was just wondering whether or not I'm allowed to bring up my car freshman year.

Yes you can, it’s not a bad ideal to bring it ( your car). First might want to see if you can get student parking. If not there is street parking but can be hectic.

AZN - yes you can bring a car but a vast majority of freshmen do not. Our D will be a sophomore and lived in Burge last year. She did not miss her car at all and almost all of her friends didn’t have cars either. Having a car is a hassel and parking is a pain. If you live in the dorms, campus student parking is expensive with the main student parking lot being located on the far side of the ball fields / athletic complex. The U of I campus is compact with most everything located close by. Bus service is good and you can get around town very easily. Hope this helps.

Thanks. It’s a 3 hour drive from home, so I was thinking I’d bring it at least for the ride back. I could maybe just keept it here for certain situations (like that one).

We let our daughter take her car after her one, and hopefully only, experience on the Greyhound bus to Chicago.

We paid $60 a month for covered parking at an apartment building one block from Burge. You can find private parking spots by checking Craigslist.

Like Big10Padre said, you don’t NEED a car. However, if you can afford the parking it’s nice to have the flexibility of going home on your schedule. It was also great for her to be able to go to the supermarket in Coralville so that she could by healthy foods to keep in her fridge.

Go Hawkeyes!
