I think you add a unique flavor to the application with some of your projects. However, you’ll want to bring up your SAT’s to at least 2200’s for a better chance.

Hello @Tiago6 You’ve got an impressive resume there. I would concur about the SAT score for the top schools you’ve listed being a bit low. Frankly, your chances at each of those schools will depend largely on how you compare to the other applicants to those schools. The quality of each school’s applicant pool will be somewhat different, and what each school is looking for in their incoming class may well be different. Of your list, in terms of level of difficulty of admission, I would say that Michigan, Boston U, NYU are at the easier end (relatively speaking) while Cornell, Harvard, & Columbia would be at the harder end. But that being said, you really cannot know for sure until you apply and speak with admissions officers at each of those schools, and endure what will seem like an eternity before their admissions letters come out next spring. In Portugal, if you haven’t already contacted our EducationUSA Advising Center located within the Fulbright Commission’s offices in Lisbon, I would encourage you to do so: [EducationUSA - Center Profile - Fulbright Information Center](http://www.educationusa.info/Fulbright-Portugal) Our advisers provide assistance free-of-charge to students looking to study in the U.S.

Hi, I´ve already been there and got some good advise, but thank you for your advise.
Can you give me some advise about the admission process for international students. Do teh financial aid situation influence the decision? How about the Ec’S? Colleges expect Sat scores to be higher from international students than for us students?
Can you help me out?

Financial aid matters a lot unless you apply to one of those super rare need-blind schools (which are also need-blind to internationals, that’s the problem). There are not many, really. But there is also great aid at schools that are ‘only’ need-aware, so try those as well.

If you are taking the TOEFL you dont need high score on the CR and WR section of SAT. A high Math score is more than enough.

I think schools do want a high CR scores. Simply because of their admission statistics, no matter if you’re international or not.

if they actually wanted high CR score just for the statistics, it would mean that they dont actually choose the applicants by who they really are. For an international student, CR means nothing if he is taking the TOEFL. SAT is designed for native speakers and it certainly does not reflect a true image of an international students critical thinking…Choosing a student just for his stats…it’s just sounds stupid. I mean…why harvard doesn’t then admit all those 4.0-2400 applicants just to increase its stats?

I really hope you’re right metaxa13. My post was just the impression I got from colleges. Thought those low scores at highly selective colleges are from super talented athletes, minorities or students that didn’t have the money to prepare like others do. My CR score is really low, so I can just hope adcoms will look at this like you do!
UPenn says that they don’t look at the student’s linguistic background. I think that’s not fair.

have you taken the TOEFL yet?
