Which school are you applying to?

@pevsis My first choice is College of science and my second is college of engineering.

This is my first time chancing anyone, so take everything I say with a grain of salt!

First off, definitely look at this page: http://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/undergraduate-admission-statistics . Compare your stats with the accepted class, see how you fare. You’re definitely on the low end for all those stats, but like you said, it’s your reach school.

For the extra curricular activities, you definitely seem to have a wide variety of interests, which will probably interest the admissions officers. You also have some pretty interesting science related ones, like that museum exhibit facilitator. I wouldn’t say your ECs are amazingly standout, but they definitely show that you aren’t someone who sits at home and watches TV all day. You seem involved in your community and actively interested in the subjects you want to study, which I’ve heard counts for a heck of a lot with admissions officers.

I’d say that it’ll be difficult for you to get in, just based on your stats alone. But, if you wrote good essays and showed a lot of interest in CMU (which matters to them a lot), I would not count yourself out.

Ultimately, though, my opinion of your chances isn’t any better than your own opinion of your chances. And you must believe that you have a shot, or else you wouldn’t have applied! Best of luck!

Wow thanks. Yeah, I did put the most amount of effort into the essay for that school and it turned out to be the best supplements essay I wrote. Hopefully they take that into account as well, I know my stats aren’t that good. Thanks again

I agree with @pevsis on his/her review. I’d also strongly recommend you sign up for an interview asap. The deadline is 2/1 and an interview can certainly boost your chances. This is coming from an alumni interviewer btw

Thanks for telling me that. I would if I could but I live 6 hours away.

Hey Annl233, if you’ve read the admissions website thoroughly, you’ll realize that you don’t have to interview on-campus. You can set up admissions interviews with alumni living close to you. I’d highly suggest you reach out today since the deadline is 2/1. Also, I’d strongly recommend you reach out to 3-5 alumni so you’ll be sure that no one cancels out on you. Explain your situation and let them know you’re reaching out to multiple alumni. I’m sure they’ll understand.

Yeah it’s too late now. I’m bummed but it’s okay. Last time I read it I could’ve sworn you had to go there to interview. Now i’ll feel bad for a while but whatever. Mistakes happen. Thanks again
