When I applied to UC Berkeley and UCLA, I wasn't sure what I wanted to major in, so I chose Undeclared in the College of Letters and Science. Now, i'm leaning more towards urban studies or design, but those are in other colleges all together. Will I be able to change the college? And is it possible to do it before being accepted (I'm almost positive I'll get into both)?

Well, I don't know about Berkley and UCLA, but when I emailed the admissions of W&M, they told me that most students don't formally declare their major until the end of Sophomore year.

I suppose every college is different, but changing majors is always an option. A large number of students change their majors at least once before they find something that suits them.

Typically, by not having experience in an actual field (which most undergrads don't), you can't truly know whether or not it fits you. Sometimes it just takes a few guesses before you pick the right one.

I can't imagine that a college would deny you for changing majors, and I don't see why it would be an issue, but then again, I'm not familiar with these colleges or the college admissions process at all, so I'm basing my claims off of what little I know.

Um...I'm not really sure about the whole "different colleges" for different programs thing, and I'm not sure how different that is from changing majors within the same college. But honestly, if you don't want to do something, don't. Pick what you want.

If you're really confused (like me), try emailing the admissions' office? I'm sure they can assist you better than me. xD

I can't speak specifically for UC Berkeley or UCLA but my youngest son was accepted to his current college as an undeclared major. During the summer before his freshman year, he decided that he wanted to be a Communications Major with a specific concentration in mind. He emailed the admission's officer and she officially changed him from Undeclared to Communications. It was nice having the change officially made before he even set foot on the campus. He was assigned to an academic advisor from the Communications dept. and all went smoothly.

I suggest emailing your admission's officer with your concerns.
