Can you design your own major at Dartmouth?

Hypothetically, if I have an interest in several areas of study such as mathematics, economics, and history, can I create a major that combines these three topics? I know many schools allow this, but I don't remember if Dartmouth does.

You can modify majors with other subject areas. Not sure if you can design a major from scratch.

Yes, you can, but you probably shouldn't.

Any reason why?

it's much less encouraged (and common) for students to do this at dartmouth than say...brown.

still, the cases where it is truly justified are rare. you should have a good idea of how the major you created would be different from say, double majoring in econ and history, and taking econ electives that are heavier in applied math. most grad schools and employers have an easier time understanding traditional majors. on the otherhand, occasionally making your own major when you have good reason to can be very impressive.
