Can you do anything with a Classics Major?

I am an absolute Latin nerd for some unknown reason...

My high school requires you to take 2 years of Latin and after getting straight 100s in the class for 8 quarters and 2 Midterms I opted into a 3rd year.

I took AP Latin Lit. this past year... did extremely well in the class... 5 on the AP Exam.

Next year is AP Latin Vergil... should be a good experience..

I have 3 straight gold medals on the National Latin Exam.

But I have been thinking, what would i EVER do with a major in the Classics? It is absolutely my very strongest point, and I totally love the language and the class, but I was wondering what there is to do...

Check this recent thread on the same topic:

a major in the classics is no better/worse than any other liberal-arts major such as history, english, etc.

You're asking the wrong question, though. "What do I do with my major" is a question appropriate for the vocational majors like nursing, engineering, accounting, teaching, etc. With a liberal-arts major you are developing your ability to think/learn/communicate and you need to spend time in college on a separate task. That task is identifying careers that interest you and getting exposure to them. Internships are a key to landing a job after college, and prior to the internship you should be using all the resources of the career center to explore different areas and find out what's a match for you.

Might look into LAC's that offer strong classics programs. Holy Cross offers merit aid to students who select to major in classics.

You can be a doctor, lawyer, businessman, statesman, or whatever you want. I'm really surprised people don't know this.

Of course, if you want to keep reading Latin, you will only do so as a college prof.

Welcome to the Latin Nerd Club :). (I forgot all the Latin I need to know b/c of our anicient coin project) Classics is a great major for future lawyers;it is said that Classics majors do exceptionally in law school.

yes, you can do anything with a Latin major

or gradschool or archeological dig master.

Thanks for all the input guys...

It's funny that I have actually been considering some sort of Law School recently and from what I've been reading that seems like a good road.
