can you do pre-med in Nursing?

Is it possible at Penn. Basically, is it possible to take all the required premed courses with the Nursing curriculum?

I'd say you're better off in the college as a chem, bio etc major. You might also look into the vagelos program.

It is possible though. I don't know the details but I know plenty of people doing it.

It's actually quite difficult, as you must take all of the premed requirements separate from the nursing ones, you cannot double count any of your science classes. Furthermore, medical schools traditionally do not like nursing majors or other health sciences majors, and with the present nursing shortage, med schools would probably be even more hesitant to take someone out of a pool of recent nursing grads.

But is it easy to schedule the premed courses? Is the Nursing curriculum flexible enough that you can easily take premed courses? And why don't medical schools like nursing or other health sciences majors?

bump for this year's class=)

What? The question and answer are the same. Nursing is not the place to be pre-med.

^yeah i wanted a bit more viewpoints on the issue....like haha maybe i'm just looking for a story of at least just one kid who went to penn nursing and succeeded in getting into med school...

i'm sure someone's successfully done it

but again, there's really no reason why you should

^yeah except for that tiny little fact that you get to attend penn for four years...but that's irrelevant, right? don't see WHY anyone would want to go there, gosh!

i have absolutely no idea what you mean by that reply

Im going to bump this thread… because Im facing a similar issue.
Bump :)
