Can you do TAP in the summer? UCLA Berkeley

Ok so im going to pcc and i am wondering if i can do the tap program is in the summer too?

Also, are the pre major classes part of the tap program too or not. If they are not a part of it, can i do the pre major classes in the summer?

And is are the igetc classes honors classes if you are in the TAP program?

Sorry one last thing, is it better to finish all the pre major couses before I apply (so like should i have them all done by the fall semester so they can see my grades?) or it doesnt matter.

BTW I was offered an invatation from berkeley's TAP program. does tht change anything?

Thanks :D

Berkeley TAP and UCLA TAP are run differently and provide different benefits. UCLA TAP usually means you’ll have to complete PCC’s honor program which involves completing a certain amount of honors classes before completing the program. Once you’ve completed or on route to completing the program, you apply to be UCLA TAP certified. So you’re not in UCLA TAP until right around the time you apply to UCLA. The main benefit being the priority admission and ability to apply with an alternate major.

Berkeley TAP doesn’t provide priority admission or alternate major so they don’t require you to take any honor courses or be a part of PCC’s program. They provide reps from the school to aid you in any questions you have about Berkeley and they also help you in during your transfer process as far as helping you apply(answer questions, go over your essay, etc). The designation of being in the program helps your chances, but they don’t claim priority admission like UCLA does. I know for Haas, they don’t recognize being in TAP at all.

So, UCLA TAP has requirements, but your school’s honor program will most likely have the same requirements. So it is as straight forward as following your school’s guidelines and you’ll qualify to apply for UCLA TAP. That means honor courses can be taken summer along with any other semester.

Yes, generally it is best to complete as many courses as possible UCLA wants before applying, but that is best case scenario. A lot of people end up finishing their courses before transferring instead of before applying so it isn’t too crucial, but important nonetheless.

Ok great info!

Hey does anyone know how, where and and by when to sign up for the TAP?

For UCLA and UCB?

Im still in HS, graduating soon!!!

Thanks

UCB is invite only for their TAP

Anyone at a cc that offers it can do a ucla TAP

Oh really?

Does UCSD have either a TAP or TAG?

UCSD is TAG every uc besides berkeley and UCLA is TAG

^^ UCSD will no longer be participating in the TAG program starting this fall…not sure if they have a TAP program

oh really good to know thanks!

@MeStudyStuff so i just rechecked that application and forms they sent me and it says that Berkeley TAP applicants have an 85% chance compared to a 20 something % chance for everyone else.

so i guess it helps lol

“Invite only” isn’t necessarily true. Anyone who qualifies will be accepted. The student just has to find out if they qualify. That just means talk with a UCB rep whenever they visit your school.
