Can you do this for ED?

I'm confused on how the whole ED contract works, but if anyone could clear this up for me.

You apply ED to, let's say, Cornell University. You also, though, apply RD to other schools. December rolls around and it turns out you have been accepted. Well, when you get that letter/email of acceptance, do you have to call the other schools and tell them to cancel your application or can you wait until the Financial Aid package comes out? And then, if the financial aid package is not good enough, could one say that it isn't enough and attend one of the other schools they applied to?

Thanks,
ansar

[bump-de-bump]

From the Cornell website:
Remember that an early-decision application is a commitment. You can apply under early decision to only one college or university. If you're accepted at Cornell, you must withdraw any applications sent to other schools and send your acceptance deposit by the deadline in early January.

You'll get your financial aid notification in mid-December so you won't have to wait to get that pkg. If you want to wait and see to compare packages, then don't apply ED - it's really for kids who have a really clear first choice and don't want to be comparing one school with another
