Can someone evaluate my chances for NASA SHARP next year?
I'm a sophomore.
Rank: 1-2/~300

EC's:
*flying lessons--really big. One of the main reasons that I didn't apply this year....by next year, I will have obtained my private pilot's license when I turn 17 (youngest age possible).
*academic decathlon 9-11 (co-captain next year)
*drama club 9-11 (lighting crew chief)
*Band- marching and concert, 1st chair clarinet this year
* fencing --not very good, I actually just started. I do it once a week.

Work:
-This summer I'll be working at an mit lab
-Paper route

I'm a white female.

Pretty good, but its hard to tell with programs like SHARP. The fact that you're a female will help a lot. Did you apply this year? It's easier to get in if you were rejected soph year.

haha I did not actually...I already had plans

I see, but I think it's a good idea too app anyway, even if the application is total BS. That way you can check the "I applied last year" box and I think it's an advantage. At one of the locations last year, I think all but one had just comleted junior year and rejected after their sophomore years. Do you have any research experience? You should try getting an internship under a professor. It was around this time last year that I started my first internship...I got rejected from SHARP but got into another very good program, so I think it was the experience that got me in.

oh well. A bit late now to apply. I actually do have an internship under an MIT professor this summer at the aero/astro lab.
