I want to major in Computational and Systems Biology because I have a interest in bio after this semester, and I have a better chance of getting into UCLA with that major than with Computer Science.
Though my end goal is to work in ML or AI which seems to require a masters or phd, can I get this without a BA in CS? I either plan to major in CaSB or Mathematics of Computation. Would either of these suffice for getting a masters in CS?
Or am I better off getting a bachelors in CS at another school?
You can get a master’s in computer science if you are willing to take some prerequisite courses before doing the graduate courses. A friend of mine did Theater at UCLA and got his master’s in computer science.
I did my degree in mathematics and am getting my master’s in computer science.
But TBH no one cares about where you went to school as an undergrad and it seems a little silly not to do computer science directly to begin with if you are starting out knowing you want to do CS.
It depends on the school. Generally, as long as you meet the prerequisites, you should be fine. Some graduate schools are picky about your undergraduate major and make you take an extra year of leveling courses. If your undergrad is Sociology, for instance, most any school will make you take leveling courses before you can take anything at the graduate level. You’ll want to make an appointment with a graduate adviser and bring your transcripts.
