Can you get in missing a pre-req or two?

I had originally planned on attending a CSU and had all my pre-reqs finished for a CSU but with an extra semester and a half(only taking 2 required classes this semester) I realized I need just a few more classes for a UC school.

I already have finished the CSU breadth and I have met all the IGETC requirements.

My first and most realistic choice is UCR. I've read very good things about their business program but so-so things about the university overall.

My other two options are UCI and UCB.

For UCI, the only pre-reqs I am missing is calculus. I need two semesters of calc. I am 100% committed to taking it at UCI but I would have to spend an extra year at CC. UCI also stated the following on assist.org

Junior-level applicants with the highest grades overall
(minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0) and who satisfactorily complete lower-division
courses equivalent to UCI's calculus (Mathematics 2A-B), economics (Economics
20A-B), statistics (Management 7), and accounting (Management 30A, 30B) will be
given preference for admission. Management 1 may be completed at UCI. Admission
to the major will be competitive due to limited space availability.

I haven't taken my CC equivalent of Mathematics 2A and 2B. But it looks like without it I can still apply but my chances are really slim. I know its an impacted major.

UCB is a big big reach. I can fit in one of the two required calc classes for UCB. This means I would be missing one single pre-req class. Also GPA-wise I don't think I can get into UCB, especially while missing a pre-req. I've heard that UCB is also really stingy about pre-reqs.

I'm also not even sure if UCI is possible. I heard the GPA's for UCI and UCB are 3.7+. At the end of Spring 2013, I will be sitting at a 3.4-3.45 which isn't good enough. I think its okay for UCR. I do have a decent upward trend and have had basically straight A's with the exception of 2 B's dating back to Spring 2011. This counting Spring, Summer, Fall 2011, Spring and Summer 2012. Fall 2010 was my worst semester. Good grades somewhat prior to that. Not great though.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your GPA is good enough for UCI, UCD, UCSB, and UCSD. Why aren’t you looking into all of those?

Thank you for the reply. From my understanding UCD only has a graduate business program. UCSB has an Econ, Econ and Accounting program. My brother is starting UCSB this fall. UCSD has an Econ program. The closest thing to a business program is the Management of Science program or Econ.

UCI is really #1 on my list. From my understanding its pretty much:

UCB

UCR

UCI

Even though UCR’s business program is ranked higher, UCI overall has a better reputation and it’s business program is gaining reputation fast. It does lack a finance option though and finance was something I was very interested in.

I’m really not sure.

UCI’s Business program is ranked higher. So you aren’t looking into Economics and Accounting majors? Just business then?

Look into TAG applications. You can guarantee yourself into 1 UC at least (except for UCB and UCLA). You have to submit a TAG from September 1st to 30th. Just make sure you qualify.

UCI doesn’t TAG for business admin btw

art2cs you are correct. Thank you.

I am looking into TAG for UCR. Also @ LAforlife sorry I should have made myself more clear. UCR has a higher ranked undergrad business program than UCI but UCI has a better graduate program.

Thanks again all.

Berkeley business program is hellishly competitive and you are not eligible for admission consideration if you are missing ANY prereqs (your application will not be read if you are missing prereqs).

Irvine business program is just about as competitive, for Fall 2010, the admit rate was 12%. I’m assuming that means anyone missing major prereqs won’t be considered either.

Riverside is a good school, it’s just got a bad rap for some reason. The campus has dedicated staff that will work with you (you can schedule phone/in-person appointments to speak to a transfer counselor): [Transfer Resource Center Home](Transfer | Apply | Undergraduate Admissions | UC Riverside |)
