I’ve taken 5 semesters of foreign language but I failed two of them. Passed both for Honors Spanish 1, failed both 1st and 2nd semester for Honors Spanish 2 my sophomore year and have passed the one semester of regular Spanish 2. Would I meet a two year foreign language requirement or do I have to pass it all for it to count?
Did you pass the first or second semester of Spanish 2? If you only passed the first semester, that would count as 1.5 years, while if you passed the second semester, that would count as 2 years, for those colleges that look at the highest level completed.
If it is not clear on the college web site whether highest level completed is what counts, ask the college directly.
If it a requirement, you are not there yet You have to pass the second semester of Spanish 2 first. If you have an issues with foreign languages, make sure you look at the graduation requirements before you start a program. The requirements for graduation can vary from no FL to level 4. They can also vary with a University from college (school) to college. Don’t enroll if you are going to have a hard time getting out due to FL.
Most top colleges require 2 or more years of FL. You may also want to check your HS graduation requirement. In our district, level 2 is required for HS diploma.
You need to complete level 2 for most 4-year universities.
Then, there may be a (further) college graduation requirement in foreign language, although typically not for Agriculture or Engineering.
Why are you struggling so with Spanish? That is what needs to be sorted out.
Are you happy with your current “passing” grade? If not, you should be seeking out resources to improve (help from teacher, tutoring, Duolingo, Netflix with subtitles etc)
What made 2 honors so much harder than 1 honors for you?
As others have said you have to complete Spanish 2 for it to count as 2 years.
Have you checked out the local community college for Spanish 2 and what type of tutoring they offer? If they have tutoring for that class, you might want to set up weekly tutoring sessions with the same person to help you understand what is giving you problems and help you review for tests.
Why are you failing?
What was the issue? Not going to class? Partying too much? Not doing the homework/reading? Working too much? Family problems? Relationship problems? Health issues? Mental health issues? Having issues only with Foreign Languages but do well in other things?
You need to change what you are doing. Read, practice, do the homework (without google translate). Get Duolingo and use that app for practice. Get a tutor.
