Can you get into a UC school without a year of visual/performing arts?

I’m really nervous that I won’t get into my top choice because I have never taken a year of a visual or performing arts class, has anyone gotten in without this?

You must complete the “F” requirement to be considered for the UCs and the “f” requirement for the CSUs. Go to your local community college now and try to find a class that meets the requirement!

If you do not meet the a-g requirements, your application will not be reviewed. Do what @Happy2Help and take a class this semester at your local CC.

UCs are quite upfront and open about this requirement.

Other options for satisfying the “f” subject requirement

Students are expected to complete a single yearlong VPA course to satisfy the “f” subject requirement, but they may also fulfill the requirement by completing two semesters of sequentially related and approved “f” courses within a single arts discipline.

UC-transferable college courses or satisfactory scores on AP or IB exams can also be used to fulfill the visual and performing arts subject requirement.

I’m an out of state student–does this apply to me as well? My school doesn’t offer much in the way of visual and performing arts, particular if you are in the IT program–there’s no room in your schedule.

Yes, it applies to all applicants even OOS. The above post gives alternate ways to satify the requirement or consider a community college class this summer. My sons HS computer graphic design satisifed this requirement. No art classes offered at your HS during summer? Self study an AP art class and take the exam. There are many ways to fulfill the requirement.

My D is OOS as well and our state does not require it for graduation so it wasn’t something she was focusing on. We learned about the A-G requirements spring of jr year and had to do some major juggling of her senior schedule to get all the requirements CA requires. In the end due to limited offerings at her school, she now gets out at 5pm instead of 3:45 and has an additional correspondent course. It has definitely not been the senior “cruise” year she had in mind but it’s her choice.
UC’s are public schools. When we are from OOS we have to follow their rules
