Can you get into BOTH Harvard and Yale?

grotongirlie- I'm pretty sure Admiral is a freshman at Harvard and I trust him as a reliable source of information, and I don't think he needs "best of luck." And I don't think your comment could be any more wrong... it just happened to be a coincidence in your case.

Sauce, I think I will wish best of luck to anyone I damn well please! It was a courtesy something you seem to know little about. My advisor told me this and I took her word for it. They get over 22,000 applications or something crazy like that I know for a fact that only a small fraction are granted interviews, they are not going to entertain or waste their time interviewing some bozo who applied to harvard as prank for all his friends,etc............i have reason to believe that what she told me is true, and if its not then so what. I am not holding my breath but believe I will be admitted on the merit of my record and achievements.

How can they schedule interviews so soon after the 22,000+ applicants send their stuff in? Would the just go by SAT scores? I think not...

for what it's worth, i got a 2390 on the SATs and will have taken 11 APs by graduation, and I did not get called for an interview. I am not "some bozo" but I do happen to live in an area where a lot of colleges are unable to ensure alumni interviews for applicants. grotongirlie, please keep your arrogant boarding school attitude to yourself

wait just a minute mallomar, you totally took this the wrong way! What I meant is I heard of someone who was a total flunkie, got d's in school and as a prank applied to a bunch of ivies, including harvard. of course he wasn't called into an interview and that was my point, that it is rediculous as was suggested by someone above that everyone who applies gets an interview. I have never heard of that and my point is why would they waste it on someone who clearly is not harvard material? I wasn't at all referring to someon liek yourself I was referring to someone who knows there is NO WAY they could get in. Sorry if you were offended!:)

BTW I was impressed by your SAT scores but don't be so quick to assume I have a boarding school attitude.

"I am not holding my breath but believe I will be admitted on the merit of my record and achievements."

Good luck, and I mean that sincerely.

Thanks Sauce, now I have to be politically correct because I have no idea if you are a harvard student or applying but good luck to you too. (just because one might already be there dosen't mean a wish of good luck could't help them) Its just a nice thing to say...........I hope I will get in but at this point am trusting fate will take me where I am really meant to be.:)

OK, well, just to correctly inform everyone here, interviews are only available if you have alumni in your area, so don't worry if you don't get one, and don't let it get to your head if you do, because you would pretty much be wrong!

However, if you get an interview, and you don't show up or you decline it, that might look bad.

even if there are alumni in your area, there is no guarantee that they are active interviewers, or that enough interviewers exist to go around. my classmate applied to penn early and got an interview but i have not yet been contacted for a penn RD interview even though i live 10 minutes from my classmate...according to his interviewer it's random (although he suspects all early applicants get interviews)

grotongirlie
**
you are completely mistaken.** harvard notifies local alum networks with the area's applicants. there is no beforehand selection. also, alums don't get applicants' stats.

oh, and you sound cocky

whatever, got my harvard interview today

psychotickevin is totally correct; my alum interviewer even mentioned that fact.

Harvard makes a strong effort to offer all of their applicants an interview. If there is an alum in your area, you get an interview. If not, then the lack of interview won't hurt you.

Grotongirlie, you really have been at groton too long. Seriously.

There may be a screener for absolutely incompetant applicants, but other than that it is all about #interviewers in an area.
