can you get into college without taking the sat and act

i did bad on my sat prep courses getting about 1100/2400. On the act i got a 16. Can i get into a college like NYU or UCLA with just a gpa score of about 3.4/4.2

No. You better get your **** together and start studying.

I think the only schools that don't consider the SAT or the ACT are art schools.

Here's a LONG list of schools that don't require the tests:
http://fairtest.org/optinit.htm

I don't think you'll get into NYU or UCLA with your current scores, unfortunately.

how about a 1500/2400 then nyu, ucla?

Just FYI, as important as finding schools that don't require SAT/ACT is making sure you are ready for college. Even if you do end up getting into Bowdoin or some other top college that does not require test scores, you should be worried about how you're going to hold up if you're getting a 16 on the ACT. These tests do serve some sort of purpose.

If you look at the average SAT scores for those two schools, you will see that a score of 1500/2400 is low for both. Unfortunately, your great GPA is average for those schools so that by itself will not do the trick. If you can afford it, look for an individual SAT tutor who can help you with exactly what YOU need to improve your score. The group classes sometimes do not address individual needs and can be more expensive than a good local tutor. Good luck.

try a 1900/2400 to start to enter into the ballpark... theres no way a 1500/2400 is cutting it for either of those schools

You could always give a $$ for the college to build a new facility or library.

Yes, but not NYU or UCLA. Or, the vast majority of top schools. Why don't you study for the test...A LOT?

okay idk what grade you're in but i took my first practice test in like 9th-10th grade and i got like 400s in the section...seriously, no joke.
but now, after one+ year of preperation, im at late 600s...
you'll make it, just study your butt off and take loads of practice tests! :D

i'm a senior actually but still have not applied to any colleges

Got to a Community College....or anyother college still accepting apps.

Some colleges don't require SATs/ACTs at all.

This thread is bogus and knicks08 is a troll. In another thread started by this person he claims to be conducting an experiment by seeing how people respond to low SAT scores, but says he actually took the SAT in 1992. In another (last month) he claims to have narrowed his choices down to two schools where he has been accepted. Ignore him.

im glad its fake. I hope no person has to endure such misery. 1100/2400... i would just /myself if iwere him.

I Dont believe that simply tests scores define ones admissions to Great colleges.. FYi I got an 1600 on my SAt and that was average.. and i got into Berkeley and UCLA..

i think if one focuses on their strong points, for example, writing, one can show abilities that are unique and diverse,, being "book smart" isnt everything.. although its great. it doesnt really show much to colleges... focus on what your good at and colleges will see that..

my friend got a 900/2400. I feel really bad for her, she does well in school, works hard. But she's going to CCC so she can transfer to UCB or UCLA, for they do not require sat/act scores for transfer applicants.
