hi I’m a high school junior and I plan on applying to Cornell next year. And I’m at the career center and because I wasn’t able to take Spanish this year but I plan on taking it senior year so I was wondering if I could still get in even if I only took 2 years of a foreign language instead of the required 3 years of foreign language
This puts you at a disadvantage in a competitive situation. Think of it this way: is there a reason they would select you among over 40k applicants without having completed the requirements? (Maybe you’re that good!)
Have you considered taking summer school Spanish in a local college to get yourself caught up?
I’m taking Spanish 2 online next summer and Spanish 3 my senior year
As long as you have the 3 years by the end of high school, you’ll have the foreign language requirement. That sounds fine (as long as your summer course will count as a legitimate course. If I were you, I’d contact Cornell admissions ahead of time to see if it will count).
If the summer course is accepted by your high school, then it would be considered the same as any other course, so you should be OK there.
It is accepted by the my high school
Even if it weren’t, you would still be fine; completion of Spanish 3 = 3 years of a foreign language for admissions purposes for virtually all colleges that require/recommend 3 years.
