I have high writing and reading scores (760 and 800) but my math score was 680... I am taking AP Calculus AB and loving it and pulling straight A's, and I think the MMSS program sounds awesome, but is there a shot in hell of me getting in?

yeah i got in with a 670

but i also had a 35 on the act math portion and a 5 on calc ab.

moral of the story: you need to have some sort of compensatory factor that indicates an aptitude for math.

The average was 765 in 2006 and it's likely higher now. The odds definitely are against you but like sidjenks said, it's possible as long as you have others to compensate that low score.

thank you for the advice! my problem is i went abroad last year so i wont have any ap (or other) score until later this summer. would it be best to just take some more math freshman year then apply as a sophomore?

I have a feeling you are confusing NU admission with MMSS admission. The two are separate. So even MMSS may be a high reach for you, applying it doesn't hurt your chance to get into NU. So I don't see the point of waiting. By the way, sophomore admission is even more competitive.

wait what? im already accepted and enrolled at nu. i meant as a freshman in college. ohkay so i guess waiting till im a sophomore is not good!! well thank you for the information anyways. but even if i apply right now, with no other scores to back up my sat score, i will pretty much get rejected right? maaayyybe i should give up. bahh

I think it's too late to apply anymore...

If you want to do it sophomore year, talk to your advisor about what classes you should take in order to be able to fulfill the requirements to be able to apply.

thank you all for the informative advice! i got some false hope because i went to a business-related programs seminar during wildcat days and the head of mmss said it wasn't too late to apply but i guess you have to have hard evidence of your math skills if you want to get accepted anyways.

they do accept late applications; the later the application, the lower your chances (just because all the spots are filled).

apply anyway. it's not gonna hurt.

yep, if you really want to do it, it won't hurt to just throw your application in there, it's not long at all.
