Can you get out of ED?

I'm planning on applying ED to the University of Chicago but I was wondering, do I HAVE to go if they accept me. I thought you could get out of it by like paying a fee or something.

U chicago is EA, non binding

you can't get out of ED. If you apply ED, you are basically signing a contract saying you definitely will go if they accept you.

unless they dont meet you finan. aid i think

Please don't go into ED with the concept of trying to get out. It can come back to bite you, your GC and your classmates.

Wait, U of Chicago is non-binding? Sorry for being so ignorant but that means what exactly?

That's the whole concept of ED.

Non-binding means that when you are accepted, you have the choice of going or not going. You are NOT obilgated to go once you are accepted.

Oh thank God. thanks everyone.

War Chant - ED, or Early Decision, is when when you get accepted to a certain school ED, then you will attend that college, no excuses. Say, if you got accepted College X through ED program, then you MUST attend that school. Because there is a reason why you applied to college X in ED: you were sure that if you were going to get accepted to that college, you would attend that college.

You are required for ED unless there is a huge issue with financial aid which they can break the ED contract for. But thats like around 3 people out of all the ED admittees.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of action is taken if you absolutely refuse to attend to school to which you applied ED?

They theoretically could inform other schools, but that is unlikely unless the other school you attend is related (ie maybe same sports division, other regional college association, etc.) Also, they can penalize your school's future applicants. (most likely action.)
