can you get the likely letter and still get rejected?

the letter goes something like this...

"Greetings from Dartmouth...My purpose in writing is very simple...There is no question that when we mail our final decisions at the end of March, you will be offered admission to the College...I see no reason to delay letting you know about the status of your application, and I hope this early indication will "ease your mind" a bit...."

It seems pretty clear that you are in. But...it still isn't a final packet...so I'm wondering...are you definitely...unconditionally...in??

you are conditionally admitted to any school.

Totally blow off senior year to the point that you don't graduate, your admission will be rescinded.

Come to Hanover during dimensions, and totally screw up, your admissions will be rescinded.

If you have misrepresented your self on your application, your admission will be rescinded.

as long as you have not done any of the above, take a deep breath becasue you are on your way to Hanover (if this is your desire).

congrats on the letter

My letter doesn't sound like your truthat.

Mine: Dartmouth college extends its warmest greetings and hearty congratulations...we hope you consider the possibility of continuing your education at Dartmouth College...we did want you to know that your admission to Dartmouth is very likely.

I would like to believe that this a likely letter.

yes, girlforever you have a LIKELY letter. congrats.

I received the same letter as truthat.

I got the same letter as girlforever. I wonder what the difference is.

Hey I just did some research from past threads...

Apparently, URMs get the "admission to Dartmouth is very likely" letter, while non-URMs got the "no question that you will be admitted" letter. So I guess it doesn't mean much.

Correct me if anyone finds an exception.

i got the same letter as truthat

why would Dartmouth create a distinction between urms and non-urms?
just for the record though, dionysus's theory holds true for me

I bet they were written by two different admissions officers. Each one writes his/her own likely letter to send to kids in their jurisdiction. But they are all likely letters and you will definitely get the official acceptance at the end of the month.

i got the same letter as truthat, but I was wondering if they could take back the offer if i haven't paid the application fee.

Since my letter is different than truthat's letter, does that mean that I can get rejected in April? I'm really worried that I'll be rejected because my letter said "very likely" not "there is no doubt" or "accepted" for that matter.

Girlforever101, now why in the world would they have sent you a letter that says "very likely" if they were going to reject you?? Some things are meant to be taken at face value. They are going to accept you!!

I am an URM, and I got the "no question" letter.

I'm not sure what the difference is, but it's not that.

What's an URM?

under represented minority
