I’m not exactly sure what AICE is; we don’t have those in Hampton Roads.

So a match school is a school you should get into i.e, you’re in the mid 50% for SAT and you have all the other stuff they’re looking or you’re stats are very typical of a student that college would accept.

High match is basically the same as a match except the school is probably a little tougher so your chances aren’t as good.

A reach is a school that is kind of a hail mary pass. That may be little too harsh…It’s a school where you aren’t a lock but you still have a decent shot at getting in. It’s more for your tougher schools like the public ivies and prestigious private schools.

While this whole “chance me,” thing is nice, don’t put too much stock in it. I was told by many people on here there was no way i would get into William and Mary and i was accepted there.

The things that are slightly lacking on your resume are your GPA and test scores (I personally hate the SAT). Regardless of what anyone tells you, the SAT is not the tell-tale sign of whether or not you will get accepted. So don’t listen to someone if they tell you you won’t get into wherever because your scores aren’t Harvard material, (CC is famous for convincing everyone they need a 2200 to get into any good school). Honestly, your GPA is going to be a big factor. and getting into UVA with a 3.8 weighted will be very tough. However, your upward grade trend is HUGE and that is phenomenal-colleges love to see that. http://blogs.wm.edu/2013/11/26/overheard-in-committee-grade-trends/

You’ve got really solid EC’s and being captain of a sports team is very helpful. being first generation is big and being Hispanic is also a plus. You’ve got a lot going for you with things outside of academics and that’ll assist in giving you the well-rounded appeal. I looked your stats over again and I think you should be a match for JMU and probably Tech as well.

@betweenthetrees that explanation was extremely helpful I really appricate it. I guess that puts me at ease but I guess I’ll just have to wait till April and I will
Know.

Being first generation and Hispanic is actually a huge factor. My kids’ high school in northern Virginia is extremely diverse, so have seen the results in college admissions for a wide variety of students. All the colleges you listed (and basically all colleges) are trying hard to attract Hispanic students, to the point where you can get away with a somewhat lower GPA and scores (but I don’t think you could get in to UVA, JMU, VT, or CNU with any really horrible grades). However, you are very strong in that you have the upward trajectory in your grades. That will make a strong impression, as well. I believe you have an excellent chance for all except UVA and perhaps a medium chance at UVA. VCU could be considered a safety for you. The only thing is, I can’t see from your information how strong/challenging your curriculum is: did you take some AP classes? How far/high did you go in Math, Science, and Foreign Language? The strength of your curriculum matters a fair amount to these schools.
