Can you guys chance me?

for MIT, cornell engineering, stanford and USC. i kinda messed up my 9th grade year and f'ed my GPA (got a 2.8), however i was able to bring it back in 10th and 11th

APs
-AB/BC calc - got a 5 on the BC test and a 5 on the AB subscore (11th grade)
-AP Psychology - 5 (10th grade)
-AP US history - 5 (11th grade)
-AP Physics C Mechanics and E&M - 5, 5 (11th grade)

currently taking (senior year)
-AP Stats
-AP government
-AP micro/macro economics
-AP computer science (taking it online)
-AP European history (got put into this class by accident since the computer science teacher left)
-english 4 honors (2nd semester only)
-basketball (1st semester only)

Sat
-math - 740
-reading - 650
-writing - 670

Sat IIs
-physics - 760
-math 2 - 770

clubs
-math club
-science club
just a peon in both, no positions of rank like president

extracurriculars
-math and science tutor for AP physics and honors chem
-camp counselor/swimming instructor
-i competed in math competitions (did ok i didn't like competing in math, however i am really good at it)
-swimmer for ten years for a private club, went to a few state competitions. however i stopped 2 years ago due to health problems (so i guess it doesn't really matter since i only teach swimming now)

weighted gpa (6.0 scale)
-4.72

unweighted gpa
-3.63

class rank
-110 out of 950

Awards
-some thing from collegeboard for taking a bunch of APs (forgot the name)
-award from d.u.k.e. tip (got it in 7th grade so i guess it doesnt matter)
nothing major

also if it is a gauge of how competitive my school is, three people from my school got accepted to MIT EA (however, it wasn't the people that i expected to get in), 3 got into Stanford restrictive early action, and a few got into cornell. does the school you go to matter? also if you mess up one year and do great in the rest do colleges care? i dropped out of a foreign language class and did bad in a world history class because i didn't care back then and i have never really done too well in english for some reason (i average a B+), but after that year i started taking hard classes and started getting serious about school and really improved. damn i really feel like i messed my chances of getting into any of those schools because of that first year.

sorry for another one of these threads and thanx in advance

Reaches, all of them. Your SATs are not good enough.

your rank is low for these schools…however if that is because of your freshman year then maybe you could explain that to the adcoms

Stanford - Reach
Cornell - Reach
MIT - Reach
USC - match

You won’t suffer for your whole life over freshmen grades, but they unfortunately do make things tougher.

There are many great colleges that will appreciate your trajectory, but very top schools like Stanford and MIT will probably not be among them.

Fill your list in with schools where at least 25% were not top of class and where all of yourl SAT scores are at least median.

Schools that send many to top schools do so for all sorts of reasons. Typically they are private schools or magnets which have very top students and lots of legacies and athletes. Or they are publics in affluent areas. These schools send a ton of applicants to top 20 schools, so you need to be better on paper than your classmates applying.

Your best bet is USC (Univ. of South Calif??). MIT, Stanford, and Cornell are all huge reaches. If you had some awesome extracurriculars or more awards it would have, in theory, balanced out the other aspects of your credentials. However, you don’t–no leadership, nothing really notable. Good luck though. Chance me?? My thread is “Wheel of Chance”

alright, cool. i didn’t think i had a great chance anyways, but i just wanted to know.
Thanx guys :)

It’s all good man. Getting into a top 20 university won’t guarantee you a lavish lifestyle. If things don’t work out just apply to the state U honor’s program. You’ll enjoy it. Trust me.
